Our council members are dedicated community leaders who share Mayor Mundell’s vision for Bloomfield’s future. Together, they bring a diverse range of expertise, experience, and passion to their roles, working collaboratively to achieve our shared goals for the Township.

 

Each council member plays a vital role in bringing this vision to life. From addressing residents’ concerns to advancing new initiatives, this team is here to serve and support our Township’s goals for a better tomorrow.

Rosalee González

Councilwoman 1st ward

Rosalee González, a proud Latina born in Brooklyn, NY, to a Puerto Rican family, is a dedicated leader and passionate advocate for the Bloomfield community. Married since 2014, she is the proud mother in a blended family of four children. Her personal experience raising neurodivergent children has given her a profound understanding of the challenges families face in navigating educational systems and securing the necessary support for their children. This lived experience fuels her passion to champion families in similar situations.

Rosalee brings over 20 years of professional expertise as a Sleep Technologist and has proudly served Veterans at the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) for the past 11 years. She is also a trained member of the VA Hospital Decontamination and First Receivers Team, equipped to respond to emergencies involving chemical, biological, or radiological contamination.

Her commitment to the community extends well beyond her professional career. Rosalee co-founded a boys’ mentoring group, creating a safe and supportive environment for personal growth, with many of the boys now graduating high school. She has also volunteered with the Bloomfield Bengals Swim Team and the Bloomfield Raptors Travel Soccer Team, spearheading fundraising efforts to support local athletes. As a class parent coordinator, she actively supports Bloomfield’s schools by organizing snacks and supplies for special holidays and events.

Rosalee is deeply dedicated to empowering the Latino community. She volunteers her time to provide translation services and connect immigrants with critical resources, fostering unity, inclusion, and cultural awareness throughout the Bloomfield community.

With a Bachelor of Arts in Language and Culture and fluency in Spanish, Rosalee brings exceptional communication skills and a profound understanding of the community's diverse needs. Her leadership, compassion, and unwavering commitment make her a powerful advocate for all residents of the 1st Ward.

As 1st Ward Councilwoman, Rosalee González will continue to work tirelessly to strengthen families, empower youth, and ensure Bloomfield remains a thriving, inclusive, and vibrant community for everyone.

Monica Charris Tabares

Council at Large

Monica Charris Tabares is the Councilwoman-at-large of Bloomfield as well as the vice president of North Hudson Community Action Corporation Head Start, where she has been promoting outstanding preschool and bilingual educational services for many years. She’s proud to serve as a role model for the Latino community while advocating for the needs of all Bloomfield residents. She has earned a BA in English Literature, a Masters in Bilingual Education, and a second Masters in Educational Leadership, and is working toward her Doctorate. As a leader, she listens to all sides of every issue, and then bravely makes the tough decisions best for everyone.  Monica believes the people, places, and stories of our past, especially of our families, are a part of the unique story of who we are.  She is certain that by understanding each of our histories we can build a better community.

Jill Fischman

Council at Large

Jill Fischman has been a proud resident of Bloomfield for over 40 years and is a graduate of the Bloomfield Public Schools. She holds a Bachelor’s Degree from The College of New Jersey (TCNJ), a Master’s Degree in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Phoenix, and a Supervisor’s Certification from Caldwell University.

With 26 years of experience in education, Jill has taught at various levels—from Kindergarten to college—and coached multiple varsity and collegiate sports. For the past 15 years, she has been a high school teacher in Union County, earning the respect of her colleagues and students alike.

Jill has been a dedicated member of the Bloomfield Board of Education (BOE) for over a decade, where her leadership has helped the district achieve significant milestones. As BOE President, she spearheaded the implementation of nationally recognized academic and social-emotional learning programs, as well as expanded extracurricular activities. Her efforts also fostered partnerships with both state and national organizations, bringing enriching opportunities to Bloomfield’s students.

Notable initiatives during her tenure include introducing full inclusion programs across all elementary schools and launching the Backstop Program to address unfinished learning resulting from COVID-19 disruptions. Jill has also been a champion of safe and healthy learning environments, supporting capital improvement projects worth millions of dollars. Under her stewardship, Bloomfield Public Schools received numerous accolades, including a national award for its collaboration with the Sandy Hook Promise Organization and Dylan’s Wings of Change.

Beyond her BOE responsibilities, Jill serves on the New Jersey School Boards Association State Legislative Committee and is a former Vice President of the New Jersey Essex County School Board Association.

Now seeking a Council at Large seat, Jill is eager to continue serving the Bloomfield community—a place deeply rooted in tradition and growth. She embodies the spirit of Bloomfield, where “Every day is a great day to be a Bengal!"

Widney Polynice

Council at Large

Widney has proudly called Bloomfield home for over 25 years. A graduate of the Bloomfield school system, he learned discipline and teamwork through sports like football and wrestling.  Bloomfield is where he met his wife, Rebecca, a lifelong resident, and co-founded a marketing company with a childhood friend to support small businesses and foster local growth. Widney has dedicated his life to serving the community by coaching youth sports, volunteering at food banks, and collaborating with local churches to meet residents’ needs. As Councilperson At Large, Widney listens to the community and works to improve education, support businesses, enhance public safety, and promote affordable housing. Guided by his slogan, “Rooted in Community, Committed to Progress,” he strives to ensure Bloomfield remains an inclusive and thriving town for all.
